- Please clean up your quoting style! Being an AOL'er is an explanation
- but not an excuse.
-
- You want proof that Windows users are stuck with string gadgets that
- close the window when you press return? Or that we are not?
-
- In both cases, count me as a witness.

-
- That's because we have a style guide that says you shouldn't encourage
- accidents to happen. Pressing return after a line of text is a perfectly
- natural action on any system and common sense dictates that it should not
- cause anything to happen that you may not want to. Even single-key
- gadget shortcuts are accidents waiting to happen, so they should be applied
- with care.
-
- And even if you say it's okay to set a trap for the user "because it's so
- convenient when you do it on purpose, which is more usual anyway", then it
- is inconsistent GUI design. A string gadget is a control element embedded
- in a window and normal keypress actions should by default be handled by
- the gadget, not by the enclosing window. The TAB key is an exception, but
- (a) causes no direct action and (b) is useful enough and (c) is fairly hard
- to confuse with normal text input. If you have multiple string gadgets to
- fill out in a single window, the "go to next string gadget" action is
- invoked much more often than the "close window with default option" action.

-
- We're talking about scrollbars here. There are zillions of programs on
- Aminet that will alter the look of your scrollbars and other system gadgets
- and I see no reason why scrollbars couldn't be patched to be nonproportional
- if we wanted to. I most certainly expect old programs to support those
- improvements like they did CycleToMenu. Try MCP, it will make existing
- GUIs look completely different and everything still works fine.
-
- That's not to say that graphicraft won't do 24 bit; why don't you install
- CyberGfx and find out?
-
-
- >Don't wanna buy Wordworth. Include it in the OS!
-
- It is bundled with the OS. *Including* it in the OS would be a very bad
- move IMHO.

-
- You're using AOL because there's no AOL client for the Amiga? What kind of
- reasoning could be behind that?
